Love the Oceans is a non-profit marine conservation organization based in Jangamo Bay, Mozambique, with a mission to protect the region’s remarkable biodiversity, from sharks to humpback whales. Through research, education, and community engagement, they actively work towards establishing a Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the region. The organization has earned global recognition, including being named a Mission Blue Hope Spot and receiving the Ocean Award for Young Initiative.
Jangamo Bay’s designation as a Hope Spot highlights Love the Oceans’ impactful conservation efforts. Spanning 15 km of coastline, from Island Rock to Coconut Bay, this Hope Spot covers 3 nautical miles out to sea, targeting areas under active conservation to ensure focused monitoring and protection. Visitors to Jangamo Bay can experience the beauty of its waters, witness migrating humpback whales, and encounter manta rays beneath the surface. Founder Francesca Trotman notes, “Becoming a Mission Blue Hope Spot is a big step toward establishing an MPA in the Bay, and gaining recognition for the area as a valuable eco-tourism asset.”
